What is a “Palak Paneer dish?
Palak Paneer is a well-known North Indian dish that is commonly paired with rice, roti, or naan. It is a healthy recipe prepared with creamy spinach sauce and cottage cheese infused with a medley of spices. It can be considered as one of the most irresistible dishes when it comes to North Indian cuisine.
Here’s how it is cooked by our chef…
Step 1 – You can take about 15 ounces of paneer for this part with 3 tablespoons of ghee/sunflower oil or butter with a pinch of salt. Fry the paneer or cottage cheese in square shapes for about 2-3 minutes, and ensure they are golden in color when they are done. Keep them separately on another plate.
Step 2 – Now to prepare the spinach sauce, you will need a pound of spinach cleaned and boil it first for about 1 minute. Then make it into a paste with a mixer for about 10 minutes to ensure it is nice and smooth.
Step 3 – Heat oil in a large pan and put two tablespoons of ghee/sunflower oil or butter as you prefer and heat on medium flame. Then add onions, with garlic, minced ginger, cumin seeds, and pepper, and cook for 30 seconds. Now it is time to add spices like turmeric, garam masala, and salt and mix the onion and spices well.
Step 4 – Transfer the spinach sauce to the pan. You can add heavy cream now in this mixture as well and simmer for 5 minutes on medium flame.
Step 5 – Finally remove the cover and add the cottage cheese cubes, turn off the heat and close the lid. Let the cottage cheese soak in the sauce before serving at least after 5 minutes.
